RIDGEVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) – A woman died Wednesday night after driving off the roadway and hitting a drain culvert, officials said.

According to the Dorchester County coroner, 45-year-old Debra Ross left the roadway and hit a drain culvert at the intersection of highways 78 and 27 around 9:45 p.m.

Officials said Ross was wearing her seat belt.

According to the coroner's office, family members said Ross had a history of falling asleep while driving.

Toxicology tests are being done, officials said, but Ross died of excessive injuries to her chest.
