Task Force to unveil study on economic impact of military in S.C.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The South Carolina Military Base Task Force is slated to unveil a study detailing the economic impact of the military in the state.

The study, to be released Tuesday, will detail "a multi-billion dollar impact of the state's military supporting tens of thousands of jobs across South Carolina," according to a news release from the task force.

The study will focus on four cities - Beaufort, Charleston, Columbia and Sumter - which house military installations.

"The study also comes at a critical time when U.S. military spending, already being reduced by several hundred billion dollars, could be cut even more drastically under a series of automatic federal spending reductions ... that are scheduled to begin in January 2013," the news release said.

The report will be released in Columbia.
