Burglar alarm leads to fire fight at insurance office

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Black burn marks and fire truck ladders surrounded a Charleston insurance office for hours early Friday morning. Officials on scene say police were the first ones to spot the fire.

The initial call came in around 1:13 a.m. according to fire officials battling the blaze at the Allstate Insurance office on Folly Road early Friday morning.

They say police were first to respond after a burglar alarm went off. Police arrived to find smoke coming from the door.

Firefighters were called in and were still battling hot spots as of 3:05 a.m. Officials say there is heavy damage inside the building. Stairwells were burned through.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
