CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Harry Lesesne has been tabbed as the new executive director of the Charleston Parks Conservancy.

Lesesne, currently a senior adviser to Charleston Mayor Joe Riley, will begin work in early December, conservancy officials said Wednesday.

Conservancy founder and chairman Darla Moore said in a news release executive director Jim Martin will now focus on the agency's program development.

"Bringing Harry on board as executive director frees Jim to devote his tremendous talents and energy to program development," Moore said. "Jim was the perfect choice to lead the conservancy through its infancy but, as the conservancy grew, the responsibilities for development and administration were just taking too much time away from the growth and day-to-day operations of the extraordinary programs Jim has developed."

Lesesne said he is "honored and excited."

The parks conservancy is a nonprofit organization that works to preserve and enhance parks in Charleston.
