MCCLELLANVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) –There's one thing that 73-year-old Clemond Harrell knows well: It doesn't cost much to be nice.
It's a motto that Harrell has lived by his entire life.
"If I can't make you happy, I won't do anything to make you sad," Harrell said.
The organization Families Helping Families has selected Harrell as one of the Lowcountry's senior citizens who could use help this Christmas. They find sponsors for families in need.
Harrell lives alone. His wife passed away years ago, and his children have moved away. In his family room, he has a wall of photographs that take him down memory lane.
"This is my wall of beauty," he said.
Harrell is elated to know he will get some Christmas cheer this year.
"It makes it feel like Christmas already," he said. "It makes me feel better than my medicine."
It is the small stuff that Harrell has listed on his Christmas list. He would like clothes, shoes and a nice suit.
"I go lacking sometimes to just pay my bills," he said.
Harrell has already picked a spot on his wall to put a 2012 Christmas photo, to remember the day that will mean so much to him.
"It will brighten me up for a whole other year. It will make me feel like Christmas," he said. "It's (the) little things (that) means a whole lot; doesn't have to be much just to know someone care."
