AWENDAW, S.C. (WCIV) -- Mount Pleasant officials are set to unveil a new training facility Friday for firefighters and police.

The new facility on Sewee Road in Awendaw cost nearly $2 million, and portions of it have been under construction since 2008. Planning for the facility began in 2004.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at 5404 Sewee Road in Awendaw.

The facility will allow firefighters to train for incidents like burning structures, balcony rescues and rope rescues, according to a "fact sheet" prepared by Mount Pleasant officials.

Also, the facility will allow police officers to conduct SWAT training and training for submerged vehicles.
