CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Just in time for Thanksgiving, local leaders are getting into the giving spirit.

The 16th Annual Lowcountry 2012 Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway is being hosted by State Senator Robert Ford, Rep. Wendell Gilliard and Rep. Chip Limehouse.

Free meals will be provided for homeless veterans, low income families and senior citizens.

The giveaway is scheduled for Tuesday at the Nichols Chapel AME Church at the corner of President and Kennedy Streets from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Then, at 4 p.m. the goodwill continues at the Piggly Wiggly in Hollywood, on S.C. Highway 165. This giveaway is part of the inaugural Sea Island Thanksgiving Activity. Turkeys and gift certificates from various grocery stores will be handed out.

Last year, the Annual Lowcountry 2012 Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway helped over 3000 families celebrate the holiday.

If you have questions regarding the 2012 Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway and Dinner Campaign, contact Senator Robert Ford at 843-813-1777, or Representative Wendell Gilliard at 843-209-3123.
