Harry Sewell (File photo/WCIV)MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Mount Pleasant Police Chief Harry Sewell, who announced his retirement earlier this month, has joined the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy.
The group announced Monday Sewell will serve as Deputy Senior Chaplain. A news conference is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
"As deputy senior chaplain, Sewell will enhance the Chaplaincy's mission of providing a calming, trusted 'ministry of presence' during crisis situations throughout Charleston and Dorchester counties," the group said in a news release. "His experience, faith and commitment to help others are well known to the community and will prove invaluable to the future of Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy."
Sewell served for 22 years as part of the police force. He was named Mount Pleasant Police Department chief in 2007, after a three-year stint as acting chief of the department. He also had worked for the South Carolina State Ports Authority.
Eddie Driggers had been deputy senior chaplain. He recently was named police chief in North Charleston.
