CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Many of us will be traveling to some extend for Thanks
giving day and into the weekend. And according to AAA, travel will be up by 0.7
percent this year from last year.
As many as 43.6 million Americans will traveling more than
50 miles this year with 90 percent of those hitting the road and driving. Less
money will be spent and that may be from the slight decrease in gas prices. Or
maybe moms are just saying, ‘Lets pack that lunch and eat it on the road
instead of stopping off at the drive-thru for that burger."
Before you hit the road, let's talk about some things that
need to be addressed. Make sure your car is ready for that trip weather your
going to grandma's house in the upstate or to Uncle John's in Jacksonville Florida.
Make sure you check those areas that are most important
like, tire pressure, oil and water levels, the spare tire is good. Insurance
info is a must to carry, if not on you then in the glove box.
I recently had a discussion with a AAA representative and
she said that everyone should have the road assistance coverage. It's less than
$100 a year and it travels with the person who has the policy and not the car.
So in other words, if you are riding in your brother's car and need road-side
assistance, your policy will take care of it.
Weather will play a big part in the travels of many, so
we'll keep this article to much of the southeast within a four or five hour
Let's start with the Charleston
area. Thanksgiving Day is looking great with plenty of sunshine and highs
topping in the upper 60s to around 70. Friday and into the Saturday will
continue to see plenty of sunshine along with highs in the mid to upper 60s.
Sunday will be a little cooler with low 60s. Overnight lows will fall into the
mid to upper 40s.
Greenville/Spartanburg and the Upstate will be under the
same weather influence with highs in the mid to upper 60s for Thanksgiving Day,
followed by the low 60s on Sunday. Overnight lows in the mid 30s to around 40.
As we head into the peach tree state of Georgia, let's say Atlanta, then look for abundant sunshine
along with upper 60s for Thursday and Friday followed by mid 60s on Saturday
and low 60s for Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the upper 30s to low 40s.
If Jacksonville Beach is
where your travels take you, then you'll love Jacksonville Beach
along with plenty of Florida
sunshine. Anita Bryant couldn't invite you better to the sunshine state. Expect
sunny skies along with upper 60s to low 70s. Overnight lows will fall into the
mid to upper 40s.
So for the most part, much of the travel in the southeast
will be rain free. A jacket will be needed for the overnight, with short
sleeves for many areas during the day.
Happy travels and Happy Thanksgiving.
