CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- It's an annual giveaway that attracts thousands of people, all of them hoping to receive a little bit of help with their holiday feasts.
The Star Gospel Mission will be giving out hundreds of holiday gift food cards with a value of $50.00 each that can be used at any Piggly Wiggly store.
This annual event draws nearly a thousand people from throughout the greater Charleston and Tri-county area and we do not yet know exactly how many cards will be given out.
No alcohol, tobacco, or lottery products may be purchased with the cards and to get one you have to be at least 30-years-old and have a valid ID as well as a Social Security Card.
Last year, the age requirement was 25 and the year before it was 18. Only 600 gift cards were handed out to those waiting in line last year-- a change from 2010 when 1,000 gift cards were passed out. Instead, 400 of the cards last year went to a handful of churches.
