NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- It's a project that serves a dual purpose.

The Dream Center is working with volunteers from Seacoast Church to provide Thanksgiving dinners to more than 4,000 families in need. They've been doing it for the past five years, according to organizers - and not just for Thanksgiving.

Organizers said the Dream Center focuses on areas of need in North Charleston. And partly because of that, according to the North Charleston Police Department, crime has dropped by more than 70 percent in some so-called Adopt-a-block areas.

"We started to do turkeys for the Dream Center (and) we did a couple in the driveway and over the years it has just sort of morphed as we've brought more and more men involved through the ministries to men at Seacoast," said Kendal Buckendahl, men's minister at Seacoast.

A team of over 100 men from Seacoast cook the turkeys.
