NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Summerville woman is charged with driving under the influence after crashing her car on Interstate 26, entrapping her passenger in the vehicle.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, a trooper with the South Carolina Highway Patrol was patrolling I-26 when he saw a car zoom past, going over 100 miles per hour.

The trooper tried to catch up with the car but lost sight of it twice. That's when deputies say the trooper saw a bumper lying in the roadway which led to the discovery of that same car wrecked on the side of the road.

The white Nissan came to rest on Louise Drive after losing control in the curve near the Bennet Yard Overpass, struck the inside retaining wall then flipped over. Deputies say the Nissan was on fire with the passenger stuck inside.

The driver,  22-year-old Kourtnie Burge of Summerville was arrested and charged with felony DUI. The male passenger was transported to MUSC with potentially life threatening injuries.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office was asked to investigate the accident due to the involvement of the SCHP however there was no actual pursuit of the vehicle or any contact between the two vehicles.
