Plane intercepted in Charleston area, criminal activity not apparent

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - A plane was intercepted in the Charleston area on Friday when security officials noticed a discrepancy between its track and flight plan.

Two F-16 fighters, under the direction of North American Aerospeace Defense Command, intercepted the Cessna 337 general aviation plane around 11:20 a.m. Friday, according to officials with NORAD.

NORAD works with homeland security defense to prevent air attacks against North America, both in the United States and Canada.

Lt. Al Blondin with NORAD said Friday that there does not appear to be any criminal activity in this incident.

NORAD officials say the aircraft landed at the Charleston Executive Aiport on Johns Island without further incident.
