Charleston, S.C. (WCIV) -- It was standing room only inside the Hanahan High School auditorium for the funeral of brothers, 19-year-old Matthew and 17-year-old Kelvin Richardson.

Classrooms where the two once sat in, were used for over flow to seat the estimated 2,000 people in attendance.

"Who wouldn't attend to be truly honest," says Paul Smith, a teammate of Matthew's but friend of both. Family members say the teens were not only athletes, but musicians and well liked by everyone.

"All they wanted to do is make jokes, have people laugh, sing. Like everybody says they were for the lord, that's all I can say they were special human beings," says Smith.

Last Sunday the brothers were on their way to church, when the jeep they were traveling in struck a tree on Cainhoy Road. Classmates say, that Monday, the entire school mourned.

"It was almost silent.  You could tell how sad it was. The whole school was affected," says student Seth Lancaster, who often joked with Kelvin Richardson in the hallways.

"I just remember how great of kid he was, how he came into class everyday smiling," says Lancaster.

Even students who shared brief encounters with the two came to show support.

"He was a good friend to me, it would be best to be a good friend to him and attend his funeral," says classmate Amber Wyas.

Students say the memories of the Richardson's will keep them together as a united student body.

"We are the Hawks, and we are a family," says Smith.
