At least two people taken to hospital after downtown Charleston fire

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Charleston City Fire Department responded to a fire at 80 Maple Street in downtown Charleston.

According to Mark Ruppel, public information officer for the Charleston Fire Department, the call came in around 7:15 p.m Wednesday.

Ruppel said when crews arrived there was heavy smoke on the second floor of the home and at least two people were transported to area hospitals.

Investigators said the fire is not being considered suspicious.

The cause is under investigation.
