Fort Jackson set to conduct mass casualty exercise

Posted: Updated:

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) -- The Army is scheduled to conduct a special mass casualty response exercise that will require emergency vehicles and security officials to move in and out of the military installation.

Army spokesman Pat Jones says Tuesday's event will be noted by anyone near entrances to Fort Jackson, which is near Columbia.

Jones says simulated casualties are being taken by emergency vehicles to several area hospitals as part of the exercise.

The exercise is meant to prepare emergency responders, those who manage an emergency operation center and also deal with family assistance issues.

Fort Jackson is the Army's largest training installation.
