MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Mount Pleasant police have arrested a man wanted for a shooting that happened over the weekend. The suspect turned himself in.

Cortlyn Daquan Brown, 17, was arrested and charged with attempted murder Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened at 2361 North Highway 17 on December 1 around 11:30 p.m.

Mt. Pleasant police say they found a man, shot in the arm, lying in the front yard of a home. More than one shot was fired, according to police and the man was attending a birthday party at that location when a fight broke out.

According to police reports, there were about 35 people at the birthday bonfire and hardly anyone would cooperate with police in their investigation.

Police say Brown turned himself in at the Mount Pleasant Police Department after he had been identified by the victim. They also report that the victim was just trying to break up a fight when he was shot by the suspect.

Police say another suspect, Barry Brown (aka BJ) was believed to have driven the shooter away from the party and was found at his father's house. According to police reports, when they questioned BJ about where he was, he said he wasn't at the party and his father interrupted, telling him to stop lying and pointing out that he smelled like marijuana.

BJ then admitted to police he was there but refused to let them search his car. BJ's father interrupted again, telling police they could search the car because it belonged to him and not his son.

Police say they found almost 44 grams of marijuana and subsequently arrested BJ for possession with intention to distribute.
