SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Summerville Police Department launched on Wednesday a new service that allows officials to send important community information to residents via emails and text messages.
The Nixle Community Information Service allows police to create, publish and deliver essential information to subscribers. The notifications can also be seen on the company's website, www.nixle.com.
According to a release from Summerville police, the messages can even be delivered to a specific quarter-mile area.
By signing up, residents have the ability to choose which agencies can send them messages and how they are received.
