CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a house fire that left one person dead.

Susan English is one of three neighbors who first called 911 then went across the street to help.

"I just saw a lot of black smoke coming out of the roof and the side of the garage. So, we went over to see if maybe we could assist in anyway and maybe get in contact wit the person in the home," said English.

According to deputies, firefighters arrived at the home shortly after 11 a.m.  A person was found inside the burning home.

"I couldn't see anything; there was so much I couldn't see through the windows, the window was very hot to the touch. So, there was no way we could even try anything," said English.

Deputies say the fire was accidental. The coroner has identified the victim as 81-year-old Anne Bello.
