North Charleston hotel evacuated, meth lab found

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A North Charleston hotel had to be evacuated during a fire investigation early Thursday morning.

Firefighters arrived to the Relax Inn on Ashley Phosphate Road just before 12:30 a.m.

Investigators from the North Charleston Police Department also arrived on the scene and focused their investigation on one room in the hotel.

According to police, the fire was deemed suspicious and investigators found "several suspicious items that are commonly used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine" in the room.

Guests were allowed back into their rooms around 1:15 a.m.

Two suspects were arrested. 32-year-old Christopher Mark Meredith and 33-year-old Carmen Nicole Jensen are both charged with attempting to manufacture meth.
