Former Moncks Corner officer charged in sexual exploitation case

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) – State police officers on Thursday arrested a former Moncks Corner police officer and charged him with 20 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

According to a release from the State Law Enforcement Division, 44-year-old Robert Carlton Shirer could face a sentence of up to ten years in prison if convicted.

Affidavits show Shirer was distributing and exchanging child pornography through a file sharing network. The affidavit shows the illegal material was sent over the file sharing network between July and August of this year.

The case was investigated by the Internet Crimes Against Children, the Greenwood, Ind., Police Department and the Brevard County, Fla., Sheriff's Department.

The South Carolina Attorney General's Office will prosecute the case.
