Over 14,000 customers lost power in Dauphin and Northumberland counties around 1:30 p.m. Friday. By 5 p.m., power had been restored to all but 27 customers.
PPL said the outage was the result of a downed power line that affected a substation in the area.
"Crews are making needed repair," PPL wrote on Twitter.
Upper Dauphin School District dismissed students an hour early because of the outage. Middle and high schools were dismissed at 2 p.m., and elementary school students left at 2:45 p.m.
Beginning around 1:30 p.m., abc27 viewers reported that parts of Millersburg, Elizabethville, Lykens and Halifax were without power. At one point, PPL's website show that 13,979 are without power in Dauphin County and 3,546 in Northumberland County.
This is a developing story. We will post new details as they become available.
