DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) – It's been three years since the town of Goose Creek discussed a smoking ban.
In 2009, the town struck down the proposed measure by a 4-3 vote.
The latest version of the measure would ban smoking in a variety of places, including health care facilities, schools, shopping malls, restaurants and bars.
While many people said they thought the government should not be able to dictate what residents can or cannot do, others supported the proposed ban.
"I think it's a pretty good idea. You know, a lot of people are dying from cancer and everything like that, so I really think it's a good idea," said Latrell Singleton.
In 2009, Goose Creek's mayor voted against the ordinance, and said Tuesday he still does not like the idea of government telling others what to do.
In order for the smoking ban to take effect, it must pass on two readings.
