Source: Tim Scott among those on 'short list' to replace DeMint
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) -- Rep. Tim Scott is reportedly on the short list to replace U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, who is resigning in January.
A person close to Gov. Nikki Haley said Rep. Trey Gowdy, former first lady Jenny Sanford, state agency director Catherine Templeton and former state attorney Henry McMaster round out the list.
The person requested to remain anonymous, saying they did not have permission to reveal that list.
"I will tell you, I know the names that have been put out there. They are top quality candidates. They are very good and would make great service people in the Senate. And, we are going through a process. What I have always said is that the process needs to be dignified. It needs to be one that really watches out for the taxpayers of this state," Haley said.
Haley said the announcement should come sooner rather than later.
