Audit of Patriots Point to be released

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A state audit of the Patriots Point Development Authority is scheduled for release by the Legislative Audit Council.

The council is slated to release the document on Thursday. It was requested almost two years ago by then-state Senate President Pro Tempore Glenn McConnell, who is now lieutenant governor.

The audit took about 18 months to complete. It was requested when McConnell questioned the agency's business plan and wondered how it was going to repay a $9 million state loan for repairs to the destroyer Laffey.

The Laffey is on display at the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant on Charleston Harbor. The museum is operated by the authority.
