MT. PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) – The director of operations of a national nonprofit was arrested for driving under the influence earlier this month, a police report shows.

According to a Mount Pleasant Police Department report, Matthew Grayson was stopped and arrested on Dec. 8 after failing sobriety tests. The report states that Grayson, the Director of Operations of Darkness To Light, was found asleep at the wheel of his truck at the intersection of Highway 17 and Mathis Ferry Road.

Grayson told officers he was coming from downtown and that he had been drinking earlier in the evening. He also consented to field sobriety tests, the report states.

Grayson was told to recite the alphabet from the letter "D" to the letter "S," which he could not do. Officers also had him stand on one leg and then walk and turn. He failed both of those tests, too, according to the report.

Officers also found an open can of Heineken in the driver's side door.

A Breathalyzer showed Grayson's BAC to be 0.14 percent.

Grayson was arrested and taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center. His court date is scheduled for Jan. 2.
