NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Family and friends remembered Matthew Renken and his love for his store, Port City Liquors, where his stepfather found him shot to death in April. The store reopened under new ownership and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday.

"He seemed like a person who got along with every body," said Preyal Patel, daughter of Port City's new owners.

New owners Precious and Gopal Patel said they kept the original name, Port City, in Renken's honor. They also said they worked with Renken's family during the re-opening process.

"He used to put a lot of time and effort in to this place. I guess that's why they're helping us to, in a sense, keep his dream going," Preyal Patel said.

North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey said police don't have a suspect or any updates in the case. But he said he's convinced someone knows what happened.

"The way it happened was abnormal. Somebody knew somebody," Summey said.

There's an $11,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. He also said police have gone out of their way to check in on Port City and the new owners. The Patels said they met their new neighbors and community and have no fears about the location.

"We're starting to get to know our customers. They're our regulars. The police constantly patrol around here. So it's not like we feel threatened," Preyal Patel said.

The store may have new owners, but little has changed, she said.

"We're taking care of this place just as Matthew would have. We knew how much it meant to him. We're not trying to change up anything Matthew had here. We're just keeping what he did going," Preyal Patel said.

Port City Liquors and Wine has been open for about a month. The Patels said they haven't had any issues so far.
