MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A gourmet food store known for its mail-order gift baskets is setting up shop in Mount Pleasant.

Southern Seasons, based out of Chapel Hill, NC, carries a large selection of specialty foods, wines, cheeses, coffees, teas and even cookware, utensils, and dinnerware.

"This is a real coup for Mount Pleasant and for the ongoing revitalization of Coleman Boulevard," said Mayor Swails. "Southern Season – building on its national reputation for serving extraordinary food, wine, gifts and food education – will bring a destination experience for local foodies and infuse Coleman with the sense of place and community that we are promoting. Southern Season will provide needed infill development and will represent an important anchor for a boulevard becoming known for its culinary appeal."

According to a press release from the Town of Mount Pleasant, Mayor Billy Swails and Charlie Way of The Beach Company flew up to Chapel Hill to seal the deal, bringing Southern Seasons to Coleman Boulevard by Summer of 2013. It will be housed in the former Food Lion supermarket located across from The Boulevard.

"We were looking to expand and open a second store," said Clay Hamner, Chairman, Southern Season, Inc.  "We searched all over the mid-Atlantic and southern region and finally chose Mount Pleasant. The town's desirability, along with the excitement of the Coleman Boulevard revitalization efforts and the opportunity to be part of a business-friendly community, set Mount Pleasant apart."

"We welcome Southern Season to Mount Pleasant and to the revitalization of Coleman Boulevard," said John Darby, CEO of The Beach Company.  "Southern Season's cooking school and full service restaurant will showcase the rich culinary heritage of the Lowcountry."
