SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) – The one-year-old child found floating and unresponsive in a pond on Tuesday died over the weekend, officials said.

According to the Summerville Police Department, someone noticed the child floating in a pond near the Farmington Village apartment complex located off Berlin G. Meyers Parkway around noon on Tuesday.

Sunday, the Berkeley County Coroner reported 20-month-old Brandon L. Homes, Jr. died at MUSC.

Officials called the incident a tragic accident and said the toddler apparently ran into the pond. According to the police report, an officer at the scene found a pair of Nike flip flops and a blue SpongeBob SuarePants rubber ball by the pond.

Residents at Farmington Village Apartment Complex told ABC News 4 they found a note on their doors today asking them to report any suspicious activity in the area to police.

Homes' death has been ruled accidental.
