Folks say they are skeptical, but ready for Doomsday

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – It appeared to be a normal day in downtown Charleston Thursday, even though some considered it Doomsday Eve.

"I think a lot people are nervous," Becky Fazio said. "I think a lot of people are unsure."

The Mayan calendar runs out December 21, 2012. Jamal Quick says he was spending his last day on earth meeting friends, and wanted to dress up for the occasion.

"I haven't worn this bowtie since junior prom. I thought I would dress up today."

Others say they've been preparing for doomsday whether it comes Friday or on another day.

Dustin Guild, a tour guide, says he is ready to hunker down.

"I'm pretty ready. More ready than the average person. I got a hundred pounds of rice, 50 pounds of sugar, 50 pounds of flour.

A group of construction workers on Market Street say they aren't worried one bit.

"The bible doesn't say anything about what time or what date," one said.

For a couple visiting the city, being in the Holy City is the perfect place to be.

"You are right here amongst everyone else. It's a good place to see who actually goes to heaven and who goes to hell," Wayne Inman of North Carolina said.

For believers, Doomsday is supposed to hit the Lowcountry at 6:12 in the morning.
