CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – Holy City bells will toll for the victims of the Newtown, Connecticut shooting. On Friday at noon, the church bells at the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul on Coming Street in Downtown Charleston, will ring 26 times in honor of the 26 victims of the shooting. Friday is the one-week anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.

Also, people around the nation and here at home are honoring the memories of the victims with a moment of silence at 9:30 EST. The time marks the moment when the tragedy at Sandy Hook started.

Also to honor the moment of silence, some major websites will go dark for one minute in observance. More than 100,000 websites and people have pledged to take part in the Internet dark-out.

Governor Nikki Haley has asked the state to observe the 9:30 moment of silence. The Governor also released a statement on Thursday saying the shooting at Sandy Hook should prompt discussions on mental health treatment and not anti-gun laws.

The Governor stated that she plans on boosting mental health spending in the state with an additional $11 million dollars in the 2013 state budget for the Department of Mental Health.
