Goose Creek man arrested on child porn charges

COLUMBIA, S.C. -  South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of Jason William McCoy (DOB: 10/15/1979), of Goose Creek, S.C., on five counts involving the sexual exploitation of a minor.  The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, a member of the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, made the arrest on December 19, 2012.

On November 20 and 21, 2012, during an undercover peer-to-peer file sharing investigation, a Berkeley County Sheriff's Office detective downloaded five files containing child pornography from a shared folder on McCoy's computer.  Authorities later executed a search warrant at McCoy's residence and seized several items, including two laptop computers, which were submitted for a complete forensic examination.

McCoy is charged with five counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, second degree, a felony offense punishable by two to ten years imprisonment on each count.  The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.

The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office.

Attorney General Wilson stressed all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
