MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Students from Wando teamed up with the "Christmas at the Citadel" program so that children will have presents to open this Christmas.
Students collected coats, blankets, toys and bikes at Piggly Wigglys in Mount Pleasant from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
This is the first year of the partnership between Wando and The Citadel.
"A lot of the kids love coming out to any of these community service opportunites just to help make someone's day a bit better," said Wando senior Jenny Bailey. "And it kind of gives them an outlook on life where realize that they're so fortunate to have everything they do, and they feel like it's only fair to then give back to those kids and other families that don't have as much as they do."
The students will be at Johnson Ha good Stadium for "Christmas at the Citadel" on Christmas day.
The event will give presents to kids in need and help feed the hungry.
