CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Rebecca Lovelace describes the split in the Episcopal Church in South Carolina like a death in the family.

Earlier this year the Diocese of South Carolina broke ties with the national Episcopal Church in disputes over ordination of homosexuals and other issues.

But Lovelace wants to stay in the national church. To do so, she had to leave the church in Conway she attended for 64 years. Now she's a member of a small worship group that worships weekly and is staying with the national church.

Of the 77 parishes in the Diocese of South Carolina, 14 are staying with the national church. And five worship groups have been formed by Episcopalians who want to stay with the national church but find their home church is leaving.
