MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a man has been arrested after he refused to pay his full cab fare because it was Christmas.
Police told The Sun News of Myrtle Beach that 43-year-old William Mayo got into the taxi early Tuesday morning and told the driver he just wanted to ride a while.
Investigators say when Mayo told the driver to stop, he had run up a nearly $11 fare, but only paid $2. The taxi driver flagged down an officer as Mayo walked away.
The officer says when he stopped Mayo and asked why he didn't pay the full amount, Mayo told him it was Christmas.
Police say Mayo smelled of alcohol when he was arrested and charged with fraud of a taxicab. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer.
