CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Instead of passing the cranberry sauce on Christmas, the Hackler family was passing the diaper bag.  Kevin Hackler said the last few days have seemed like a movie for him and his wife Kristin.

"I didn't know what to expect." he said. "I knew the due date had come and gone, and then we woke up in the middle of the night and she said it's time. I sort of freaked out."

Kristin Hackler went into labor early on Christmas Eve and it lasted 31 long hours.

"We ended up having him at 7:23 a.m. Christmas day," Kristin Hackler said. "So, he is our Christmas present."

The baby boy, named Edward Dean Hackler, weighed in at a healthy 8 pounds 5 ounces and has already been showered with gifts.

"It's nice to be able to share (Edward) in a time when the holidays are about giving and celebrating life," Kristin Hackler said.

The Hackler family will check out of Trident Medical Center with the new addition Wednesday.
