Man told police he fired gun to protect his car

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Charleston man is facing charges after he told police he fired his gun at  two would-be thieves.

Charleston police were called to Dingle Street Christmas night for reports of shots fired. According to the incident report, a caller said up to nine shots were heard coming from a green house.

When police arrived, they said they found 25-year-old Brian Antoine Taylor who admitted to shooting his 9mm. The report says he told police he saw two men trying to break into his car with a coat hanger. "I confronted them and they didn't move," he told police. "That's when I shot in the air."

The report notes that they found no other people in the area.

Taylor is charged with discharging a firearm.
