Storms bring heavy rain but little damage to SC

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The same storm system that brought dozes of tornadoes to the Southeast on Christmas Day appears to have just brought rain and a little wind to South Carolina.

The storms moved across the state Wednesday morning, bringing an inch of rain to most areas, with reports of up to 2 inches of rain in the Upstate.

The thunderstorms also had gusty winds, but there was only minor reports of damage and scattered power outages.

The heavy rain did cause several wrecks along Interstate 85, and state troopers reported traffic jams and long delays.

Skies were expected to clear Wednesday afternoon and temperatures were expected to start to fall with brisk winds.
