NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCIV) -- The new year began with new life for several young couples across the Lowcountry.
"It's incredible; it's the most wonderful experience ever," said Derrick Howard.
Howard and his wife Ellen welcomed to the world Charlotte Anne Howard, born at 7:30 a.m. New Year's Day. The brand new baby girl came in at 8 pounds 2 ounces, and 20 inches.
"She is definitely a great way to start off the year," said Ellen Howard.
Dad and mom named Charlotte Anne after her great aunt and grandmother. She arrived right on time. Jan. 1 was Charlotte's due date, and the date on the calendar is now forever changed for this family.
"Now it's just more of a family oriented celebration, it will definitely make New Year's more meaningful," said Ellen Howard.
"It's just you and your beautiful little girl, that's it, nothing else matters," DerrickHoward said.
Believe it or not, a holiday birthday is simply a part of this family's tradition. All baby Charlotte did was follow suit.
"My husband was born on April Fool's Day and our son James was born on St. Patrick's Day," EllenHoward said.
The Howards now have the honor of getting to know their little creation. It will be the start of a year they'll never forget.
"It's just beautiful, it just makes it so much more real," said Ellen Howard. "We just wanted to meet her."
Charlotte was delivered at Charleston Birth Place Tuesday morning. The first New Year's Day baby was born at 12:10 a.m. in Summerville.
