CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon was officially sworn in for his seventh term.
He said on Wednesday he's memorized the oath of office.
Cannon ran unopposed and won the election in November. He took his oath in front of his deputies.
The sheriff said his department has improved significantly since he was first elected in 1988.
"We have come a long way. We've become accredited on the law enforcement side. The medical portion of our detention center is accredited and highly regarded and we expect in January for the jail itself to be accredited and that is a high and distinct honor," Cannon said.
Cannon said he looks forward to the completion of the consolidated dispatch service this year and the renovation of the old SCE&G building on Azalea Avenue that will be an additional building for the sheriff's office.
