Buses at Walterboro homeless shelter vandalized

WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCIV) -- Walterboro Public Safety officers are investigating the vandalism of two buses belonging to a non-profit homeless shelter.

According to police reports, police were called to the Lowcountry Community Action Agency on Washington Street around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Employees of the shelter told police they found a "white powdery substance" all over the inside of the buses. Police said the vandals had "sprayed fire extinguishers all over the inside of the bus."

Police also found that the vandals had tampered with the gas lines and ignition switches.

Damages are listed as totaling $10,000.

According to the Lowcountry Community Action Agency website, the non-profit organization provides temporary shelter for homeless families and provides assistance for low-income families.
