Bulletproof kid clothes designed for American audience, says businessman

COLOMBIA (AP) -- A Colombian businessman says he'll export bulletproof clothing for children to the United States.

Miguel Caballero's company has been making clothing for people in high-risk situations for 20 years.

He said he received requests to make children's clothing after last month's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. He says the company is also making a child-sized bulletproof vest that attaches to a bulletproof backpack.

He hopes the clothing will help protect young lives and make kids and their parents feel safer.

No word on when the items will be available in the U.S.  Meantime, several American companies that make armored backpacks said sales skyrocketed after the shootings.
