School resource officer charged with having sex with student

HAMPTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- South Carolina Law Enforcement Division officials have charged a former Hampton County deputy sheriff with having sex with a child.

Larry Heyward, 52, is charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and faces up to 20 years in prison for each charge if found guilty.

Heyward was also charged with misconduct in office. He was employed with the Hampton County Sheriff's Office as a school resource officer.

According to affidavits, Heyward is accused of having oral and anal sex with a victim who was between the ages of 11 and 14-years-old. The affidavits say the abuse happened between August 2010 and December 2012.
