ST. GEORGE, S.C. (AP/WCIV) - A man has been killed after he tried to drive a pickup truck across railroad tracks in St. George.

The Dorchester County coroner's office has not released the victim's name. The victim's wife, Brandi Willis, identified him as 27-year-old Richard Willis.

According to St. George Police Chief Anthony Britt, the train hit a Chevy pickup truck around 4:48 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the corner of Anne Street and Railroad Avenue.  He said the truck was dragged about 100 yards.

Chief Britt said the victim was a firefighter with Grover Fire Department.

The AP reports the crossing has several warning signs but no lights or mechanical arms blocking the crossing. Chief Britt told ABC News 4 the railroad crossing only has a yield sign to indicate the railroad is there.
