WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) – A mother of two young children and her boyfriend were arrested Sunday on charges of child neglect after her children were found in a car outside Citadel Mall.

According to a Charleston Police Department report, Sierra Ancrum and Antron Demetrius Gibbs were charged with two counts of unlawful conduct towards a child. Gibbs was also charged with having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, the report states.

According to the report, Ancrum's children were found by two women who had just parked at the mall. She told police the children had been alone for at least 20 minutes.

The witnesses told police that when they parked, they noticed a small child standing outside of a blue Mitsubishi sedan with his pants around his ankles.

When the women approached the boy, he reportedly said he and the other child had been in the vehicle for a "long, long time."

"I pee-peed myself all over my shirt," the boy reportedly told the witnesses.

When police arrived, the two children said they were cold and wanted to sit in a warm car. While looking in the windows of the car, officers then noticed a pair of open Icehouse beers and a wallet in the floorboard. When the officers showed the pictures in the wallet to the children, both identified the woman as their mother, the report states.

Officers escorted one of the children to the bathroom.

According to the report, Ancrum and Gibbs returned to the parking lot about seven minutes after police arrived. Ancrum told police she had only left the children in the car for 15 minutes.

She told police she left the children in the car because they were sleeping.

At a later interview with Department of Social Services, Ancrum told a DSS agent that the children had been left alone in the car since 4 p.m.

The children were turned over to their grandparents and were reportedly happy to be leaving with them.

Court dates are pending for Ancrum and Gibbs.
