Former Hanahan standout plays for national title with Irish
HANAHAN, S.C. (WCIV) -- A former Lowcountry football star will be on college football's biggest stage Monday night.
Chris Brown is a back-up wide receiver for Notre Dame and will take the field as the Fighting Irish take on Alabama for the national championship.
This time last year, Brown was just finishing up his senior season at Hanahan High School.
Hanahan's head football coach said the team will be cheering on the Irish.
"You know there's a lot of interest in it with us having someone local in the game besides just the fact that it is the national championship game to have one of your former players in it adds a little bit more," said Hanahan's football coach, Charlie Patterson. "They're going to be watching anxiously tonight hoping that Chris is in there and get some balls thrown his way and contribute and we'll all be pulling for Notre Dame."
When Brown played for Hanahan, Patterson said no one was able to match his speed.
Patterson said Brown's hard work on the field and in the classroom culminated in signing a letter of intent to play in South Bend.
