CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Charleston County School Board will discuss school safety at its next meeting as part of a response to the deadly shooting in Newtown, Conn.
Superintendent Dr. Nancy McGinley said the school board would consider all options to keep students safe.
"We have put an enormous amount of time and money into facility security in Charleston county. We have built schools now with the latest technology: surveillance cameras, security vestibules, visitor tracking systems and we will continue to explore whatever we can do," she said.
McGinley said board members will discuss school safety on Jan. 14.
A little further north, school board members in Georgetown County will address the same issue in a meeting Tuesday night.
Georgetown Superintendent Randy Doziers will ask the board to dun an officer in every elementary school.
He said the decision is based on the Sandy Hook tragedy. His plan is to use off-duty officers who would be paid for by the school district.
