Firefighters gather to say goodbye to man killed by train

ST. GEORGE, S.C. (WCIV) -- Firefighters from across the state were in St. George on Thursday for the funeral service of one of their own.

Firefighters stood at attention at Indian Field United Methodist Church as family and friends said their final goodbyes to Richard Willis.

The 27-year-old firefighter died four days ago after his truck was hit by a train.
Willis served with the Santee Fire and Grover Volunteer Fire departments.

"We were just shocked and were just like, it can't be happening. Not to someone this young to be taken so quickly like that. And really, in such a horrific manner as that," said David Mizell.

Willis left behind two young daughters and a stepson.
