CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The man believed by police to be involved in a Jan. 7 shooting in downtown Charleston surrendered to police on Friday.

Antwone Smith, 26, was charged with first-degree assault and battery. He is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center, police said.

According to police, the shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. in front of a Columbus Street business. Smith entered the business and told the shooting victim to step outside, police said.

Once there, the two people got into an argument which led to Smith shooting the other man in the buttocks, police said.

Police are still investigating the incident.
