COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is speaking at the Columbia Urban League's annual breakfast recognizing the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
The 15th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Breakfast is scheduled for Tuesday morning in West Columbia.
James T. McLawhorn Jr. is the local urban league's executive director. He has said the event's goal is to bring together business and political leaders to try to find common ground. The breakfast is being held days before the 13th annual MLK Day rally at the Statehouse, which is sponsored by the state chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Haley is the state's first female and first minority governor. The Republican governor's parents emigrated from India.
